Matt Pizatella is a licensed landscape architect (WV & PA) and LEED Accredited Professional based in Morgantown, West Virginia, and the principal of Terraform Studio.

Humble Beginnings

Matt’s path into the profession started early — and from the ground up. In high school he worked as a landscape laborer, and after graduation he spent several years in design/build before moving into consulting. That construction background still shapes every project: an instinct for what is buildable, the judgment to make smart adjustments in the field, and fluency across landscape architecture and civil engineering.

The Practice

Today his work centers on the projects other firms pass over — parks, trails, streetscapes, and visualization for developers, architects, and municipalities across the region. His portfolio includes West Virginia’s first universal-accessibility park, ATV/UTV trail planning across Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and award-nominated work on Appalachian landscapes.

On the Trails

Trail running isn’t just a hobby for Matt — it’s a way to understand terrain, flow, and user experience from the ground up. Every climb, turn, and descent offers lessons that go far beyond the race course, shaping the way he approaches trail design and planning. If we want to create trails that inspire and endure, we need to feel them, test them, and live them.
